Training and Certification Requirements
All regular, substitute, and activity bus drivers are required by the Department of Public Instruction to attend the following training programs:
- Annual 3-hour training workshop sponsored by the local school district or county superintendent’s office.
- Defensive Driver Course (DDC) 4-hour workshop every five years. New drivers must attend within one year of employment (including 9-person vehicles).
- Other meetings/training called by the transportation director.
Regional Bus Driver Training
The NDSC is working with South East Education Cooperative (SEEC) to provide bus driver training this year. Trainings will be held at Wahpeton High School – Auditorium, Edgeley Public School, Sargent Central Public School, and Northern Cass School District on the following dates:
School Bus Driver Training – August 5th, 2025 @ 8:30 AM in Wahpeton, ND
School Bus Driver Training – August 13th, 2025 @ 9:00 AM in Edgeley, ND
School Bus Driver Training – September 3rd, 2025 @ 5:30 PM in Foreman, ND
Defensive Driving Course – September 24th, 2025 @ 5:15 PM in Hunter, ND
