Tim’s Credentials
Tim’s first job out of high school was working in a mine in 1997. He has done everything in a mine from shovel coal to being an interim mine manager. Tim has done extensive work in engineering, environmental, training, safety, maintenance, and production, and has been a supervisor since 1998, so each area of work is at the highest level of exposure. Being versatile helps with perspective when looking at a safety issue. Tim is a certified MSHA instructor, a certified blaster, and has a surface coal foreman certificate.

What do you do at NDSC?
MSHA instructor for the mines. In the “Miners’ rights” from the CFR, each experienced miner needs at least 8 hours a year of training. Each new miner needs 24 hours of training on mine-related safety topic. I have only done mining for work, so I feel that has really sharpened my knowledge of the industry, and am excited to bring that experience to NDSC and learn new skills as well.
Why is NDSC’s mission to prevent injuries and save lives important to you?
I have witnessed firsthand the finality of a fatality, and many career-ending injuries. It’s important to me that I make an impact on miners’ safety. I have an opportunity to do that at NDSC.
What are your hobbies?
Hunting, hiking, camping, All the things outdoors. I spend a lot of time in the gym, even if you can’t tell!
If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?
Boston, so I can see the Celtics play.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
Federal taxes are out of control.
