What do you do at NDSC?
I am the ECCS (Energy Coalition for Contractor Safety) Manager and oversee all responsibilities for the ECCS members. I assist companies who wish to work for the ECCS (plants) to become approved ECCS contractors. I make sure all contractors have a qualified ECCS Safety Manual and all of their employees have passed a 10-panel lab-certified drug test and have their OSHA 10 or 30 safety training, before being allowed on any of the ECCS properties. For those companies who do not currently have a safety manual, or need one rather quickly due to time constraints, I will create an ECCS approved Safety Manual for them. I also create ISNetworld Safety Manuals for those companies who need one. The ECCS database contains over 16,000 employees and nearly 700 approved contractor companies which are maintained and updated on a daily basis. Approved contractors are required to submit their safety stats annually which include their OSHA Incident Rates and Workman’s Comp EMR rates, as well as any citations or fatalities incurred in the previous year. These are entered into the system so the ECCS members can view and determine which companies qualify for contracts to work for the ECCS.
Why is NDSC’s mission to prevent injuries and save lives important to you?
Having been a Firearm Safety Instructor for 17 years, a Child Advocate for 10 years, and a Fire Prevention Coordinator, safety in one form or another has always been a passion I have. Anything we can do to save one life or eliminate an injury is the reason we all work here. Because we all have loved ones who care about us, working in an environment that is safe and knowing that we are able to go home to them each day without incident brings peace of mind to our families, friends and our co-workers.
