You can reduce points on your license, lower your insurance premiums, and improve your driving skills, but the best benefit is learning how to avoid ‘the other guy’ to prevent a crash that could kill you or your passengers.

The North Dakota Safety Council, in cooperation with the Drivers License and Traffic Safety Division of the ND Department of Transportation, ND Highway Patrol and the ND Insurance Department, offer these programs to ND drivers as incentive for their involvement in a driver improvement course.

YOUR LICENSE: The North Dakota Safety Council (NDSC) is not a state entity. If you have questions about your license, points or payment for a ticket, please contact the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) at 701-328-2600. The NDSC is a non-profit agency responsible for providing the safety training you may need to reduce points or insurance premiums.

POINT REDUCTION: After DDC-4, DDC Online, or Alive at 25, you will be eligible for a three point reduction on your North Dakota driving record which could help you avoid a license suspension. It will not cancel a mandatory suspension or violation, nor will it cancel any action which is already being taken against your driving record. Contact the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) for more information at 701-328-2600. If your license is not issued by the NDDOT, contact your state DOT to see if one of these courses qualifies in your state.

INSURANCE DISCOUNT: Complete an approved NDSC Defensive Driving Course and become eligible for motor vehicle insurance premium discounts from your insurance carrier. Your discount may apply to all vehicles for which you are listed on the policy as a principal operator, including autos, trucks, recreation vehicles and motorcycles. Contact your insurance company for details.

HOW TO REGISTER: Courses are added regularly. Log onto and click on the Traffic Safety logo to find the most current course schedule or inquire about group rates. Call 701-223-6372 or 800-932-8890 to register for any course.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you are unable to attend a training session, you must cancel at least three business days prior to the course for a full refund. Late or un-cancelled registrations are non-refundable. The NDSC reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet the minimum attendance requirements. Log on to to view class schedules and cancellations for DDC and Alive at 25.
